Hi, Speed” event to be “the most significant iPhone event in years,” says analyst

Less than 48 hours away from Apple’s “Hi, Speed” event, all eyes are on the tech giant’s most anticipated launches of the year, the iPhone 12. Unlike in the past, COVID19 has pushed Apple to release this year’s new iPhone a month later than usual and to hold its typical in-person event digitally.

Apple will announce the iPhone 12 series which will include the iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max. Each will sport 5G support, which by itself already has analysts and investors excited. As CNBC reports, “Investors and analysts have hoped for years that a 5G iPhone would represent a major upgrade and spur a big wave of sales”.

That immense optimism for 5G support, alongside possibly the biggest redesign to the iPhone since the iPhone X which introduced a nearly full-screen design, and all-new body design are causing analysts to call Tuesday’s event the “most significant iPhone event in years”.

Morgan Stanely analysts Katy Huberty writes in a note seen by CNBC that Apple will launch 4 new iPhones, confirming to earlier leaks and reports. According to Katy the smallest iPhone 12, the “mini” will feature a 5.4-inch screen that will match the size of the iPhone 6.

While Apple will announce its new handsets on Tuesday, what remains unknown is when they’ll be available to the public. Apple’s CFO Luca Maestri confirmed in the companies Q3 earnings call that the iPhone would go on sale later than normal. Apple leaker Jon Prosser who accurately reported the Oct. 13th event date says that iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 pre-orders will begin sometime in the week following the event, with shipments occurring the next week. As for the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, Prosser says that those will ship later in November.

It’s possible that some models will go on sale shortly after the event while others take a longer time to hit store shelves, most likely due to challenges designing and manufacturing ten of millions of devices during a global pandemic. Last year, ten days elapsed between the launch event and the first iPhones that went on sale.

Luckily for us, all the uncertainty will come to an end when the clocks hit 10 AM PT on Tuesday, October 13th. Apple Terminal will be covering the event live right here on appleterm.com, and over on our Twitter.
