What you should expect with the Latest iOS 14 update and upcoming iPhone 12

iPhone 12 with a large screen, flat edges, LiDAR, etc... + iOS 14 with widgets on the home screen, default apps, new call and Siri UI, etc...= 😍
2020 looks very promising for @Apple

iOS14 New Feature:

iOS 14 has a completely new and moved password manager. Now, it’s own section within Settings, includes Security Recommendations, and more.

iOS 14 can now analyze your headphones sound and automatically adjust the audio levels if it goes above a set decibel.

New Changes:

When setting up iOS 14, there are a number of new animations, new icons for the “Sign into your Apple ID” page, and a new Siri page reflecting the sphere from the new Siri UI.

@Apple says that widgets on #iOS14 should not be mini-apps, instead should provide users with glanceable information, personalized and customizable.

iOS and iPadOS 14 will now tell you when an app gains access to your clipboard. This became a hot topic of discussion last year, and now @Apple has addressed it.
iOS 14 completely redesigns Game Center making it easier to play and compete against friends and family in supported games.

Safari has built-in translation, now when visiting a website other than the one in your default language, the app will notify you that translation is available in the Search bar. The option to translate is available in the menu.

Safari on iOS 14 will give you a “Tracking Report” with detailed information on potential trackers for the website you are visiting, plus, new information on “Intelligent Tracking Prevention”.

iOS14 New Settings:

iOS 14 allows you to customize where new app downloads go, whether to your homescreen and App Library, or only App Library under a new settings page. Additionally, you can enable/disable notification badges for App Library.

iOS 14 allows you to tap the back of your #iPhone in order to do custom actions. You can even set it up to open custom Shortcuts.

It also works extremely well from our testing on beta 1.

The menu for selecting different output devices for your phone calls has been redesigned, now smaller and much cleaner.

Messages on iOS 14 now lets you pin conversations at the top. If a contact is typing, you’ll get an indicator. If it’s a group chat, you’ll also see the Memoji of who sent the last few messages.

Apple to start producing new iPhone SE in India.

Apple to start producing new iPhone SE in India; report

The Informationin a paywalled report via Appleinsider says that Apple is gearing up to produce the new iPhone SE in India in an attempt to bypass import taxes, per Appleinsider‘s report:

According to sources familiar with the matter, Apple has told at least one of its supplier in China to start shipping components for the 2020 iPhone SE to India manufacturing partners. This will start the process to assemble the new iPhone in India, allowing the company to work around hefty import taxes.

If true, it would produce massive economic growth in India and help stimulate the economy. An earlier report suggested that Apple is eyeing India for a massive investment that would help in removing its reliance from China.

The report from The Information says that the producer will be Wistron, but notes that Apple’s main iPhone producer in China, Foxconn already has a presence in India. The news also comes following the easing of Indian government regulation that Apple voiced displeasure with. The regulations made it harder for companies such as Apple to achieve long term stability in the economy and made the whole process harder.

Could a 5G iPhone SE Be Coming Next Year?

Could a 5G iPhone SE Be Coming Next Year?

At this point, there’s no doubt that Apple’s iPhone 12, which is expected to launch later this year, will offer support for 5G networks. However, while nobody has really been talking about what Apple might do with its iPhone SE in that regard, new developments in 5G chip technology mean we might see a 5G-capable model of Apple’s budget iPhone soon too.

Up to this point, the big problem with 5G technology is that it’s expensive. The chips themselves aren’t cheap, and the effort required to engineer them into modern smartphones, ranging from building antenna-in-package (AiP) modules for the 5G frequencies to addressing performance and power consumption issues means 5G is not yet for the faint of heart or light of wallet when it comes to building smartphones.

In fact, it was these issues that led many to believe last year that 5G could only be coming to the “iPhone 12 Pro” models, or that these models might somehow get “better” 5G than the standard iPhone 12, however most recent reports have suggested that the entire lineup will be getting ultra-fast mmWave 5G when it finally arrives this year, with the only real outstanding question not being if they’re coming, but when they’re coming.

Wither iPhone SE?

So where does that leave the iPhone SE? Like most people, we’ve assumed that Apple won’t be in any big hurry to add 5G technology to that model, and considering everything that the iPhone SE already offers at a great price, it’s hard to be disappointed. Expecting 5G on a budget iPhone like that could very well be asking for too much.

Then there’s the fact that we really have no idea when Apple will even refresh the iPhone SE. The original model, released in 2016, lasted for around two years before it was discontinued, and then it took another two years before Apple came up with a replacement. Since the current iPhone SE already sports the same A13 processor as Apple’s iPhone 11 models, it’s very likely that it will continue to be supported at least through iOS 16, and Apple doesn’t need to be in a hurry to release an updated version.

The catch, however, is that lower-cost 5G smartphones are coming, and Apple isn’t going to want to be left behind. While Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X60 and Snapdragon X55 chips are arguably too powerful and definitely too expensive to pack into a $399 iPhone, the veteran chipmaker has just released a new upstart that could change the entire 5G landscape: the new Snapdragon X51.

Right now the X51 is part of Qualcomm’s newest 600-series CPU, the Snapdragon 690. These 600-series chips are typically used as the processors in very inexpensive Android smartphones, and while Apple uses its own A-series chips at the core of its iPhones, until Apple manages to get its own modem chip business off the ground, its 5G modem chips are coming from Qualcomm.

As The Verge notes, however, the new Qualcomm 690 will help to drive sub-$200 Android phones with 5G support, and once these begin arriving on the market—which may still take a year or so—it stands to reason that Apple is going to need to eventually follow suit. The Verge predicts that the first budget 5G smartphones could land as soon as Q2 2020 from vendors such as LG, Motorola, and Sharp.

Of course, these low-cost 5G smartphones aren’t going to support ultra-fast mmWave technology — the Qualcomm X51 only supports sub-6GHz frequencies anyway — so Apple’s flagship iPhones are still going to have the 5G advantage, but sub-6GHz is more than enough in a budget smartphone, especially considering how sparsely mmWave has been deployed so far.

While there’s basically no way that Apple will release a new iPhone SE before next spring, it’s certainly possible we could see a 5G-capable iPhone SE by this time next year, not to mention the reports that an iPhone SE Plus is still coming, and Apple could even chose to lead with that one as its first 5G-capable budget iPhone.

iOS 14 podcasts set to gain “For You” section and more.

iOS 14 podcasts set to gain “For You” section and more; report

9to5Mac is exclusively reporting that they’ve been told by sources that iOS 14 will include a new podcasts app. Per the report, the Podcasts app will gain a similar “For You” tab as Apple Music has in the app.

That means the Podcasts app will learn about your personal preferences to suggest new podcasts available on the platform, making it more customized for each user. A new user profile should let you follow your friends on Apple Podcasts to see what they’re listening to.

Additionally, the report says that the new Podcasts app on iOS 14 will include the ability for creators to offer bonus content to listersns. They’ll appear on the same feed as the normal podcast episodes, but will presumably be in a separate section of the feed.

9to5Mac is no stranger to holding their own WWDC, leaking nearly everything we currently know about iOS 14. Apple’s annual developer conference kicks off on Monday where the company will announce new versions of its operating systems and possibly new hardware.

Apple price target raised to approximately $400-$420, iPhone 12 launch still set for September; analyst.

Apple price target raised to $400- $420, iPhone 12 launch still set for September; analyst.

Today, prominent Citi analyst Jim Suva raised Apple’s price target from $310 to $400 and has maintained its Buy rating. The analyst who covers and details Apple’s business model says that a September iPhone 12 launch will happen but actual shipments of the iPhone will be delayed.

Due to COVID19 and its global economic impact Suva says that estimated consensus iPhone sales have gone done around 15% year on year in the past 2 quarters. Additionally, potential share gains from China-based Huawei may produce $8 billion in incremental sales in addition to Apple’s strong lead in wearable devices and services.

“We see Apple shares as attractive given the revenue diversification, unique product + service set and potential for strong cash flow generation and shareholder returns.”

Apple’s performance on the stock market has been doing better as the company begins to reopen stores, and as countries begin to revive their stale and stagnant economics. The iPhone 12 is reported to be delayed, however, whether that includes a keynote delay and a shipment delay remains unknown.

iMac with Face ID allegedly mentioned in code discovered by leaker

iMac with Face ID allegedly mentioned in code discovered by leaker

Apple is expected to launch a brand new iMac at WWDC 2020 now less than a week away. The new device is thought to introduce a completely new design with thinner bezels a T2 chip, AMD Navi GPU, and the death of Fusion Drive.

In the final days ahead of the event, new leaks from a new Twitter account indicate that the new iMac may come with FaceID. The account, @blue_kanikama has tweeted out a picture allegedly showing a FaceID.plist file within code, to support it, the account shared schematic images which it says came from iOS 14.

The images show an iMac design with rounded edges and the True Depth camera system on the top, following the lead of the iPad Pro. Also corroborating the images is another account, @iFinder_rus which shows images of a similar iMac design.

The original report that Apple will release a new iMac at WWDC from leaker Sonny Dickson says that the edges of the device will be like the Pro Display XDR which doesn’t have rounded edges questing the legitimacy of the schematic leaked.

iOS 14 Soon to Be Announced, Apple’s WWDC Schedule Revealed
Apple today unveiled the lineup for its 2020 Worldwide Developers Conference. Originally slated to be held in person, the conference will be 100% online thanks to the coronavirus pandemic.

This will be the first time in the 31-year history of the event that attendees will not be meeting in person. Though it’s adopting an all-digital format, Apple claims this will be the “biggest WWDC to date.” WWDC will kick off on Monday, June 22, at 10:00 AM Pacific Time with a keynote event.

The keynote will be streamed online via Apple.com, Apple’s Developer app, Apple’s Developer website, the Apple TV app, and YouTube. It will be available publicly to everyone, not just registered Apple developers.

Following the keynote, Apple will be holding a “State of the Union” address, which will provide detailed information on the latest updates for iOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS. This developer-centric presentation will be available on the Apple Developer website and the Apple Developer App.

The developer-focused presentations will begin June 23 and continue through June 26.

Apple has scheduled more than 100 technical and design exhibitions, including 1-on-1 sessions with Apple engineers. All the videos recorded for these sessions will be released daily via Apple’s Developer app and website.

Ahead of WWDC 2020, Apple is unveiling its new Apple Developer forums. The online forums will link together its worldwide network of developers with over 1,000 Apple Engineers. Forum members can ask and answer questions with Apple’s engineers and among themselves.

Apple will use the forums during WWDC, allowing developers to ask questions, browse the forums, and search for questions.

Developers interested in following WWDC 2020 should download the Apple Developer App for additional information on signing up for engineering sessions and details on the session videos. Developers without the app will receive information via email or can find it on Apple’s Developer website.

The 2020 iMac Is Coming – Here’s Everything We Know (and Want)

This seems to be the year of small updates from Apple. Many products, from the iPad Pro to the Mac mini, have received some love from Apple this year. Even the iPhone SE got a much-deserved update this year.

Although, some people might argue that these updates weren’t substantial enough to justify that current costumers make an upgrade. And while that may be true, a refresh is always welcomed, even if it’s a small one.

However, Apple isn’t done with its product updates. There are a bunch of rumors pointing at new products, and to some other updates as well. That’s the case for the well-known iMac. This computer has been around for quite some time now, and it seems like Apple could be working on a new model that we might see this year.

The last time Apple updated the iMac was over a year ago. In March 2019, Apple showed us a newer iMac model that disappointed many long-time fans. The same design and the improvements in specs exclusive for the most expensive model left many of us wanting for more. A lot more.

It’s clearly time for the iMac to get a substantial update. The good news is, the all-in-one computer might get the update it deserves this year.

There’s still a lot of information about the 2020 iMac we don’t have, but here are the things we know, the things we expect, and everything we want.

2020 iMac Design

It seems like Apple believes the iMac’s design is flawless since it hasn’t changed it for a little over 10 years. And it’s true that the unibody design on the iMac is so iconic that you would recognize it anywhere. That doesn’t mean it shouldn’t gain a few improvements.

Apple New iMacs 2019
Apple

We should expect the same design for this year’s iMac. There have been rumors, based on an Apple patent, that the company might be working on a new iMac made from a single sheet of glass. This is just a patent, however, and it’s highly unlikely that we’ll see something like that, at least this year. But I got to tell you, it looks beautiful.

There have been rumors of a new 23-inch iMac to be released later this year. Although, it’s possible that this won’t be a totally new model. Instead, Apple might continue to use the regular iMac models and but with smaller bezels and larger display.

This seems to be the most possible scenario. If we look at Apple’s updates in recent years, most devices’ bezels have been reduced to have a bigger display without making a bigger product.

Speaking of displays, we expect Apple to improve the iMac’s screen resolution, at least on the base model. The cheapest 2019 iMac available comes with a 1920-by-1080 sRGB display, while the other, more expensive models have a 4K Retina Display.

A lower resolution on the cheapest model leaves the iMac a little outdated, compared to other computers on the same price range, so it’s highly possible that Apple will improve the resolution on the iMac.

A Gaming iMac?

The gaming community often looks down on Apple’s computers when it comes to gaming. Albeit, it’s a natural response, since Mac computers are not the best for choice for computer gaming.

Apple knows this and it’s possible that the next iMac will try to change that for good. According to some recent rumors, Apple might add for the first time, a 10-core Intel processor on the next iMac.

It’s worth mentioning that Apple won’t sell this as a “Gaming iMac,” but it will give the computer more power to withstand long gaming sessions. This rumor’s highly possible since Apple released its gaming subscription service called Apple Arcade just last year, telling us that Apple is focusing on the games department as well.

Besides the improved processor, we should see better storage on the iMac as well.

Currently, the iMac comes with a Fusion Drive by default. Although the Fusion Drive is a good hard drive, a solid-state drive, or SSD is the better option for most computers in this day and age.

You do have the option to change your storage from a Fusion Drive to an SSD, but this can cost you up to $700, depending on the model. For that kind of price, you could get a set of wheels instead.

Switching from a Fusion Drive to a solid-state drive would make the iMac even better for gaming. Plus it could also make it safer since Apple could then use the T2 Chip in it.

The T2 Chip is Apple’s security chip for Mac computers. It works as an extra layer of protection that encrypts all of the information on your Mac. Sadly, this chip is integrated on almost every Mac computer. Actually, there’s just one Mac computer that doesn’t have this chip, do you know which one it is?

Yeah, the iMac. Reportedly, the main reason why the iMac doesn’t have a T2 Chip is because of the lack of a solid-state drive. Based on all of that, it should be a no-brainer for Apple to start implementing SSD as the main storage option for this year’s iMac.

Is Face ID Coming to the 2020 iMac?

Face ID is a cool security feature exclusive to the iPhone and the iPad. Rather than adding Face ID to Mac computers, Apple decided to keep implementing Touch ID as a way to unlock your computer.

Apple WWDC 2020 announcement

And while we don’t know when or if Apple will ever use Face ID on its computers, some people are speculating we might see it as soon as this year.

This speculation comes from the Memojis we see in the 2020 WWDC announcement. As some of you may know, Memojis are created with the True Depth technology on the front-facing camera on the most recent iPhones. This technology also lets you use Face ID to unlock your iPhone.

Because of this, some people believe Apple might be hinting that upcoming Mac computers, including the iMac, will make use of their front-facing camera to enable Memojis. And also Face ID.

Although I’m on the fence about this speculation, it could be possible. Just last year Apple filed a patent that mentioned, among other things, a facial detection sensor for the Mac computers.

It’s been almost a year since that patent, so there is a possibility that Apple has been working on a Face ID feature for the newer Mac computers.

2020 iMac Release Date

Speaking of WWDC, it’s been expected that Apple will unveil the new iMac on this year’s event. This is highly possible since we also expect the WWDC will be heavily focused on Mac computers. Plus, just last year Apple used this event to announce the Mac Pro.

If this is correct, we should see the new 2020 iMac on June the 22nd, and we shouldn’t have to wait long after that to order one. According to famous Apple leaker Jon Prosser, there is an iMac that’s “ready to launch.” If that’s the case, we could get the new iMac as soon as next month.

There are still plenty of things we don’t know about the 2020 iMac. And since we’re so close to the WWDC, we’ll have to wait and see what else Apple has in store for us in that event.
